From Dawn to Dusk: A Full Day of Dining at 32 Mansion
Most people know 32 Mansion for its Nyonya dinners or its heritage event spaces. But what many visitors to Georgetown have yet to discover is that this 1920s seaside mansion now offers something for almost every hour of the day.
With the recent launch of a brand new breakfast menu at Beach Blanket Babylon, the beachfront arm of 32 Mansion, you can now start your morning by the sea and stay right through to dinner if the mood takes you. Here is how a full day of dining unfolds at one of Penang's most distinctive addresses.
Morning: Breakfast by the Sea
The new breakfast menu at Beach Blanket Babylon is served daily from 7.30am to 11.30am. It is still in its debut stage, with more offerings to come, but what is already available is worth waking up for.
The Nasi Lemak selection alone gives you six ways to start your day. The Nasi Lemak Ayam Goreng Berempah (RM 18) is a classic done well, with fragrant coconut rice, crispy spiced fried chicken, and all the traditional accompaniments. For something with a Nyonya twist, the Nasi Lemak Nyonya with Asam Fish and Sambal Belacan (RM 18) brings a tangy, spicy edge that is distinctly Peranakan. Those after something richer can go for the Nasi Lemak Beef Rendang (RM 28) or the Nasi Lemak Lamb Kurma (RM 28), both hearty enough to carry you through to lunch.
If noodles are more your thing, there is Char Koay Teow, Hokkien Char, Mee Goreng, and Char Bihun, all at RM 15. But the noodle soup section is where the breakfast menu really sets itself apart with dishes that are hard to find elsewhere in Georgetown.
The Ipoh Hor Fun (RM 16) is a silky smooth flat rice noodle served in a clear prawn and chicken broth. It is a dish that Ipoh is famous for, and finding a properly made version in Penang is not easy. The Halal Hokkien Mee (RM 16) is another standout. Traditional Hokkien Prawn Mee is typically prepared with pork lard, which means most versions in Penang are off-limits for Muslim diners. Here at 32 Mansion, the kitchen has developed a pork-free version that stays true to the rich, prawn-forward flavour the dish is known for. And then there is the Sarawak Laksa (RM 16), a vermicelli noodle soup from East Malaysia with a creamy, aromatic broth that is completely different from the Penang laksa most visitors know. It is rarely found on this side of the South China Sea. Of course, the house specialty Crab Laksa (RM 30) is also available from the morning for those who already know what they came for.
For a lighter start, the Soft Boiled Eggs with Toast (RM 6) and Kaya Toast (RM 5) keep things simple. The Serabai, also known as Apom Bokwa (RM 12 for four pieces, available after 10am), is a rare traditional Peranakan pancake that very few restaurants in Penang still serve. And if you have a sweet tooth early in the day, the Sticky Toffee Pudding with Vanilla Ice Cream (RM 16) and Swiss Chocolate Almond Torte (RM 12) round out the morning menu nicely.
There is something about eating Char Koay Teow with the sea breeze on your face at nine in the morning that just feels right.
Afternoon: Penang Hawker Favourites

Between lunch and dinner, from 3pm to 6pm, the kitchen switches to a menu of Penang hawker-style snacks and light bites. This is the part of the day that most visitors miss entirely, and it might be the best-kept secret at 32 Mansion.
The snack menu features Chicken Satay (RM 29), Crunchy Deep-Fried Wantan (RM 12), Cucur Udang (RM 12), and Rojak Penang (RM 12). The Roti Bengali with Nyonya Chicken Curry (RM 20) is a satisfying mid-afternoon meal on its own, and the Otak Otak Roti Bengali Sandwich (RM 12) offers something you will not find on many menus in Georgetown.
If you still have room, the afternoon also brings hot appetisers from the main Nyonya menu. Pie Tee, Choon Pneah with crabmeat, Chicken Lor Bak, and Prawn Fritters are all available during this window. It is the kind of menu that turns a quick stop into a long, lazy afternoon by the water.
Evening: A Full Nyonya Dinner
As the sun begins to set and the lights come on along the seafront, the kitchen moves into its full Nyonya dinner service from 6.30pm.
This is where 32 Mansion's return to its Peranakan roots really shines. The dinner menu features heritage dishes drawn from family recipes, including the Chicken Curry Kapitan (RM 34), Nasi Ulam (RM 28), Jiu Hu Char (RM 33), and Sambal Udang (RM 33). The Crab Laksa remains the house signature, and the Beef Rendang (RM 55) is slow-cooked until dark and deeply seasoned.
For starters, the Pie Tee and Choon Pneah are crowd favourites, while the Kerabu salads offer a bright, refreshing contrast to the richer dishes. End with the Apom Bokwa or the Bee Ko Moi, a black glutinous rice pudding that rounds off the meal beautifully.
Dinner at 32 Mansion, with the sea stretched out beside you and the mansion lit up behind, is one of those Georgetown experiences that stays with you.
One Address, Three Meals, All Day by the Sea
What makes 32 Mansion unusual is that you do not need to go anywhere else. Breakfast, a leisurely afternoon snack, and a proper Nyonya dinner can all happen at the same table, with the same view, at the same heritage address.
Few places in Georgetown offer this kind of range. Fewer still offer it right on the waterfront, inside a century-old Italianate villa. Whether you are a visitor spending a day exploring the city or a local looking for a new spot to settle into, 32 Mansion has something waiting for you at every hour.
The restaurant is pork-free. Reservations for dinner are recommended, especially on weekends.
32 Mansion is located at 32, Jalan Sultan Ahmad Shah, Georgetown, Penang. For reservations, visit www.32mansion.com.my
